A moose was on the loose in old Spokane --
Not an animal from a zoo,
No one could domesticate this one of God's creatures --
Far from its wetland habitat, too,
This was a cow of the species --
No palmate antlers were seen,
As I sat gazing out from my picture window
It hardly registered with my cognizance of the scene,
When my awestruck awareness materialized
I thought, "This somehow seems unreal,"
She had no calves to hinder her passing
And the neighbors' fine lawn her hooves did feel.
