AMATEUR RADIO

This kid I knew had a lot of fun
With a Heathkit rig, an AT-1.

He borrowed it from Melvin Syms, a ham
Radio operator and shoe shop man.

With a Novice ticket and an amateur call
He worked a few stations with an antenna small.

His interest in wireless was rather short-lived --
Never cared for Morse code, and never really thrived

On electrical theory or learning Ohm's law,
Was attracted to trucking -- got it from his Pa.

Bob became a driver of Interstate rigs,
After the passing of "Maggie & Jiggs."

I still remember radios with ruddy glowing tubes
And an ex-Marine Principal named Elmer E. Dubes.
