BRIDGE OVER SPOKANE FALLS |
Union Pacific, The Milwaukee Road
And Spokane International might have been the last
Rail lines and bridges to access Spokane --
To do so was a project vast.
What came to be called, "the high bridge"
Crossed the river a mile from the depot.
Following the north bank of the Spokane River
The line led to the falls and north Monroe.
Enormous I-beams riveted together
Made a lofty, impressive span --
High and surmounting the Monroe Street bridge --
An impressive project for mere man.
No one could have known the line would not survive
A world's fair named Expo '74.
Only Great Northern's clock tower remains --
Trent is Spokane Falls Blvd. forevermore.
