A bird, in England, was the darndest thing
I've seen -- it held a snail in its beak
And landed on a concrete slab,
As out of my window I took a peek.
To him, my back porch looked like an anvil,
He knew just how to use it, too.
I've never seen such an unexpected
Animal act outside of a zoo.
Incredible as it may seem, I watched
As time and again he gave it a whack
Until the snail had armor no more --
No longer had its house on its back.
I mused to myself, quite astonished
That the gastropod had succumbed.
The bird consumed its tasty snack
While I watched such intelligence stunned.
